This site is designed to show The World what Covent Garden is all about - it's History both new and old and how its buildings were saved by The Covent Garden Community Association - what it's like today and what to expect when you visit and what to do when you get to Covent Garden and over the next few months we will be building a DIRECTORY of local venues including - restaurants - clubs - pubs - theatres and galleries.

I shot my collection of photographs of the Old Covent Garden Market in 1972/3 – just before it's closure on the 9th November 1974 – specifically to make up a dummy book to send to The Frankfurt Book Fair in the hope that a publisher would take up the idea of publishing a book about it.

I didn't see the images as anything other than a set of recce pictures as there were other photographers covering the last days of the Market and I felt that they would be the providers of all the images that would be needed for such a book.

I did keep my images though and they are the way I saw it in the limited time that I spent taking them very early in the morning while the Market was in full swing.

I have in recent years had exhibitions in Covent Garden and other parts of London and during that time gathered together all sorts of stories about Covent Garden both about the Old Market, the Theatres, the Royal Opera and Ballet and it's local history which we intend to document on film, in photographs and in writing, to create a Social History Archive so that they can be preserved for the future.
